Deadline has received this official casting announcement:
LOS ANGELES, CA, April 4, 2011- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES are pleased to announce that actor Josh Hutcherson (THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT) has been cast in the role of Peeta Mellark, with Liam Hemsworth (THE LAST SONG) joining the film in the role of Gale Hawthorne in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel. Both actors will star opposite Jennifer Lawrence, who it was recently announced will play heroine Katniss Everdeen.
I’ve supported Josh and I’m pretty pleased with the decision. His hair and eyes can be easily changed, no problem. Some have said that his age is an issue, with Jen L. being two years older. I don’t think that’s problem at all it’s only two years difference. Also, Josh and Jen L. are both from Kentucky. Interesting. He looks like a really nice and cool person. I’m happy with him.
Now onto Liam, Liam, Liam. I myself favor Peeta over Gale in the series, but I still care about Gale just as much. I didn’t want Gale to be thrown under the bus, pushed off a cliff, fed to crocodiles, chewed then spit out by having Liam play him. That’s just cruel. Even more cruel, to get any sense of his acting ability I’d have to watch The Last Song. Yeah, not going to happen. I have no idea why he was chosen and I really don’t care to know. Never in a million years did I expect Liam to get the role. I’ll be weeping if you need me:
P.S. I’m still going to see the movie! It’s just such a shame Gale won’t be in it. That’s right, I refuse to acknowledge Liam. Now I feel so bad. Damn it Liam Hemsworth! Why can’t you be a better actor or at least decent and not look like your 30! I don’t know if he’ll do a good job or not. I’m not flippin psychic. God.
